The B&B is often promoted to birders as there are 120 varieties of colorful, tropical birds
including three types of toucans. Many come to the feeders daily to eat bananas. The
owners made a bird list made from the bird bible of CR “The Birds of Costa Rica” (Cornell
Univ. Press) which is given to guests to identify the birds. Video of some of the birds of

The B&B Side:
Includes 3 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms (one bedroom is a double loft with two sections �`
one queen bed and two twin beds plus a large covered porch facing the forest.), then 2
bedrooms on the main level; each with their own private bath. There is also a full kitchen,
dining area, and guest common area. The large front porch is a popular place for all guests
as the views are amazing and an excellent spot to watch the array of birds that visit daily.

This side will be sold completely furnished except for a family antique cabinet, personal
artifacts and paintings. It comes ready to rent rooms and make breakfast.

If desired, the Chalet Nicholas and the online booking infrastructure (with

There is a helpful internet webmaster who is willing to continue computer work and a local
maid who makes breakfast and cleans. Since they have been working with us many years it
will be a very easy transition to continue a B&B if you wish.

Owner Side:
This half is being sold unfurnished (options to buy some furnishings available) and has 2
bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms. There is a large “Rainforest Room” 30×30, facing the forest,
which is surrounded by sliding glass screened windows and is used as the combined living
room, dining room, and kitchenette. Beautiful hardwoods are everywhere.

The 4+ acre property, (hidden from the stone arch entryway from Route 142), originally was
a dairy farm with only a few trees. The owners reforested it with 2000 native seedling trees
and now it is a true forest with cleared paths down to a jungle river passing through to Lake
Arenal from Lake Cote. The property adjoins the Govt. protected forest area which
surrounds Lake Arenal which has also sent seeds to continue the reforestation. What an

The gardens are full of tropical orchids and exotic flowers which can be separated to
continue in other locations simply by putting them in the very fertile ground to regrow.
There is aluminum/plastic greenhouse for growing greens to have fresh salad. Fruit trees
are under $10 each and produce fruits within 3-4 years. The climate is green year round so
easy to grow around Lake Arenal. Most keep beautiful fresh flowers in their house cut from
the own yard. This is truly Pura Vida.

Since the climate is an average 70F. Year round and it stays green year round due to being a
rainforest area we have excellent pure air and water from artisanal wells controlled from the
town for purity, people can live much more healthily here on Lake Arenal. The local stores
have most of what you want or you can go to farmers markets nearby plus there is a
Walmart and Pricesmart in Liberia which is easy to go to in 1 ½ hours after spending a day
at the beach. There is nothing we miss here. Since there are many vegetarians and vegans
in our area there is an organic store in Nuevo Arenal and the grocery stores cater to
foreigners. If there is something special you want, they find it. There are many activities
available in the area: Yoga, Exercise Classes, Water sports, Water Exercise Classes, Tennis,
Pickleball, Book Clubs, Restaurant get-togethers for groups or friends’ visits, etc. We have
excellent local restaurants from local typical to 4 star but no fast food restaurants here
fortunately so we live a healthier life.

Since we are only a 45 minute drive from the busy tourism volcano area in La Fortuna there
are hot springs and many tours available for you and your guests if you wish to enjoy them.

The Liberia International Airport is only 1 1/2 hours drive on all paved roads. Our
Guanacaste capital city of Liberia serves this northeast region with necessary services, so
there is no need anymore to go to the heavily traffic laden city of San Jose for goods and
services. Liberia is only ½ hour to the beautiful Pacific Coast where you can choose
between many Nicoya Pacific Beaches for a day or weekend of sunshine. Then you can still
return to the cooler climate which is 70F. and stays green year round. It is truly a “Pura
Vida” here.
